The need for students and educators alike to stay abreast of the local, national, and international news that occurs on a daily and weekly basis should be of paramount concern to both.  It is understood that some of this news is or can be inappropriate for students within the elementary age range, but nevertheless, teachers can still educate their students and introduce concepts that are meaningful and that students will understand.  A prime example of such a concept would be recylcing.
